Archive for June 2004

Our landscaper has just completed work on our backyard and the new sod is so green and health, now our yard looks so pretty, it even has an irrigation system! Naturally we spent the weekend shopping for plants. Here’s a list of plants we got this last weekend:

1) Hydrangea “Endless Summer”
2) Hibiscus Rose of Sharon “Blue Bird”
3) Petunias
4) Coleus
5) Verbena
6) Mint
7) Basil 8) Romaine & Butter Lettuce
9) Serrano Chilli

A lot, eh? :)

It was one of the more fulfilling weekends I’ve had in months. On Saturday we took a drive up to Brentwood for some fruit picking. Man those nectarines and plums are so sweet and juicy, it was awesome. We ended up buying about 9 pounds of fruit home. On our drive there we passed Clover’s first home (Oakley). I used to hate driving inland, I don’t know maybe its the hot weather, but ever since we got Clover from there, it wasn’t so bad anymore.

We got to attend our very first Asian American wedding in San Francisco, the wedding of my ex-coworker. Most of the activities are similar to what we had in Singapore, but they got to play games during the dinner, which was really fun. Wish we had thought of that for our wedding ;)
I’ve been dreaming about beautifying our backyard even since we moved to this new place, and on Sunday we went to Payless Nursery on King in San Jose, to see the plants they have. We fell in love with Japanese Maple, and just had to have a couple in our backyard. But we didn’t get any on Sunday. Instead, on Monday, the landscaper called and told us that they would be able to start work on the yard the very next day, which was great news, since they had previously told us that we had to wait till July. We just picked out two Japanese Maples yesterday, and this morning, they will be planted in our yard! I’m excited.

I wonder if there are any nurseries nearby in Milpitas, even though Payless is great but its kinda far. I know there is one in Redwood City, where I work, and there’s the Regan Nursery in Fremont, that’s about it.

I’ll tell you all about my weekend, and some new happenings, but work has been just TOO busy, and not having my own computer doesn’t help. So, just be patient, as I have lots to say, but no time to say it ;). I’ll find time soon enough, so sit tight.

Last night I was trying to give my ratties some cherries and noticed that Schlepp was motionless, with her eyes half open. At first I thought she was sleeping, but then the realization came almost the next second, as she didn’t even move when I tried to wake her. Otter was in a corner, not really knowing what to do. Sigh, this is all so sudden. Otter had been the one with the tumor, she was the one whom I’d brought to the vet last week thinking of putting her down, but not Schlepp - Schlepp was still so chubby and healthy, I’d never thought that she would go before Otter. I guess in life, nothing is predictable.

Well, I did. It was last Thursday I think, we went to the Japanese place along El Camino to pick up our lunch, and when we got back, there was a HUGE, DEEP key scratch on the driver’s side of my car. It looked awful. I have to ask this - Who would do such a thing? Have I pissed you off that much that you have to get out of the car to do this?

I call my car “The Samurai” now.

Apple surprised all of us yesterday (Tuesday) with the launch of their newest product - Airport Express with AirTunes - genius! Guess what my next add-on to my 12″ PB? And TODAY, they updated the model lineup for their G5 PowerMacs! Woo hoo!

Ok I want to get the 12″ powerbook. What sucks is that there are rumors among the Mac community that Apple’s coming up with improvements to PBs come WWDC (June 28th), so WHAT DO I DO?????

1 week in the new place - still unpacking our stuff, playing around with some gardening, building IKEA furniture - all fun, but tiring stuff. Our Memorial Day Weekend was pretty much spent shopping in hardware stores, trying to figure out what the hell we’re supposed to do to re-grass our lawn etc. I’ve never had a backyard in my life, and so does Doug, so you can understand our cluelessness.

My iBook - well, I tried to get a new adaptor last weekend, but it didn’t help in reviving it. The battery is probably dead, and the charging status goes on and off, even though the electricity is plugged in tightly, I just don’t know what’s up with it, I can’t get it to run because its now at 0%. This baby has served me well for 3 years (iBook Dual USB), so maybe its time to get a new one? I still want to find out if there are any Apple Repair Centers out there … they might know what’s wrong with my computer.
