The Art of Diaper Changing

I think I’ve experienced every possible thing that can go wrong when changing Rebecca’s diapers. Picture these scenarios:

ONE: I open the diaper, she pees starts peeing all over herself;
TWO: I remove the soiled diaper, and before I can put on a new one, she poops and the watery poop slides up the back of her shirt (messiest ever);
THREE: Her flailing limbs get in the way of the soiled diaper and she gets poop all over her hands and legs;
FOUR: The minute I put on a new diaper, she poops, and I have to go through the whole process again.

It definitely takes practice to change a diaper, and I’m still trying to perfect it. Here are some tips I’d like to share:

  • When you open the soiled diaper, count to 20 before fully opening the front flap, making sure she doesn’t start peeing.
  • Do most of the wiping WITH the soiled diaper still underneath.
  • Do not leave her diaper-less for longer than is necessary.
  • Slip the new diaper in QUICKLY (takes practice).
  • Make any final wipings with the new diaper underneath.
  • ALWAYS check to make sure the diaper fits snugly and the waist area of the diaper doesn’t get folded and is high enough. If the diaper slides down her butt that’ll spell trouble (poop stains on her clothes).

There you have it, taking note of these tips you will realize that diaper changing will no longer be that dreaded chore that you think it is.
