June is one busy month

Last weekend was exhausting. We started our move to the new place on Friday (June 16) – started at around 9am in the morning with the help of professional movers, and completed moving all our stuff over at around 3pm. I couldn’t believe how many boxes we have – our 2 car garage is now scattered with boxes, mostly opened.

I had major feet issues due to the lifting of heavy stuff, and getting used to the hardwood floors throughout. They were swollen at the pressure points, and really painful. Anyway I’m just glad they are all better now.

I love the hardwood floors in the new place as compared to our old place which had pergo on the first floor and carpet on the second. We had professional cleaners clean and waxed the floors and now they are gleaming! Ahhh ..

Charlotte and Cayenne love the new place. On the very first night (Friday), Charlotte was a bit homesick – she crawled under the dining and just laid there. My guess is she was expecting us to go home, not realizing that this is her new home. Cayenne, as usual, as oblivious of anything around her. All she cares about is fun. She had no problem just plopping on our sofa (her usual spot) and slept. I guess she thinks that Charlotte would let her know if there are any changes. Oh the responsiblities of being Big Sis.

Rebecca is too little to know what’s going on, and fortunately she didn’t have much problems getting used to the new surroundings. One major issue we have now is the HEAT. The Bay Area is now experiencing a major heat wave, with temperatures going up to over 100 degrees in the southern part of the bay, as well as inland spots. I’m glad we are in the Peninsula area – it’s still rather warm, but bearable. Temperatures have reached the hight 80s around here. Last night we gave in to the heat and turned on the AC. That definitely helped. A LOT. I think we’ll be turning on the AC for a few more nights this week *wink*.

Having moved from a townhome to a single-family home, we are not used to the garbage collecting system. I now realize how we took the garbage collection at our old place for granted. We are major trash creators, paper towels, soiled diapers, leftover food, takeout boxes, pets waste, etc. We could easily fill a 10 gallon bin every night. It was easy in the old place – we just walked over to the main garbage collection area and threw all our trash there. Now since the garbage is collected once a week, and we are in charge of the garbage bin, things are different. We need to keep clean, make sure that food waste get covered so flies and ants don’t attack, and the smell doesn’t escape. This has made me really conscious about the waste we produce, which is actually a good thing, if you think about it. I’m starting to think more of recycling now.

I hope to get everything unpacked by this weekend, so we can move forward and enjoy our new place. Once everything’s settled I will also take pictures of our new home to post here.
