Toy M is Back!
Today I drove EMMa (aka Toy M), my Miata, to work. This is the first time in more than 6 months that she got to run for a longer distance. She had been sitting in storage at our old place while Rebecca was born, through the Winter, and a month ago, we jump started her to drive her to our new home. I gave her a good wash, but her battery was still dead.
Last week we got AAA to come test the battery to see if it was bad or just needed charging, but the AAA guy wasn’t able to give a definite answer. So we went to Kragen and got a 2AMP charger and hooked her up during the weekend. We charged her battery for about 24 hours, with some time gap in between, as I was uncertain on the correct amount of time for the battery to fully charge. The Miata forum did mention 24 hours, so that’s what I did. After charging, she was able to start, but that friggin’ car alarm kept going off when I open the door. Well, that was not a main concern, the main thing was that she was able to start.
We gave her a day to see if her battery could hold a charge, and it did. Monday night, we drove around downtown MV and surrounding areas, then came back. We turned the engine off, and tried to start it again - it worked. Now I was ready to drive her to work.
Which brings us back to today. I took the 280 freeway coz I knew there wasn’t going to be bad traffic compared to the 101, and I didn’t want to risk her stalling. I made it to the office, but throughout the day I was worried that she might not be able to start when I get off from work. Miraculously, she started. What a doll. I was already prepared for Jess to give me a ride home. No need for that. On my way back, I decided to take a chance and stopped by the gas station. She needed to be refilled. After a drink. I tried to start the engine, and she purred like a kitten.
It is great being able to drive my little red roadster again.
