I haven’t been updating my blog, and I apologize. I have been pretty busy lately, having started to work from home. That does take getting used to, but I DID survive 1 week with this new schedule, so I think I’m doing ok (knock on wood).
Ok now that I have time to think about it, I do love working from home – I get to spend quality time with Rebecca, more importantly, I am there to experience life with her, and that’s priceless. Of course, when I’m “working”, anything about work that comes up will take first priority, that is, after I put Rebecca in or on a safe place so I can concentrate on my work.
That brings us to the “safe places”. I have three – her bed, the high chair, and the playpen, affectionately called “the cage”. The first one is self-explanatory. She takes like two major naps during the day – one after breakfast, and one in the late afternoon, so these are the times when I get a breather. I put her on the high chair for mealtime, and sometimes she is agreeable to hanging out on the chair for more than the time it takes for her to finish her food. The “cage” is more of a wildcard, any other time when I need her to stay put I’ll put her in the cage. Sometimes she resists, sometimes she doesn’t. If she kicks a fuss (literally!), last resort is to put her on my lap. Now with that there is a danger that she’ll hit some obscure key and either delete my files, or add unwanted gibberish to the content, both of which do not produce good outcomes, so we try to minimize putting her on lap during Mommy work time.
I do have one issue with working from home, and that is, you are isolated from the world around you, and I hate that. First, I love to drive, and that is virtually not necessary now, and second, I like to visit shops, discover new places to eat, etc, and I can’t do that now. The only break I do get to go back in touch with civilization is by taking Rebecca and the doggies to the park, that’s it. Which is why everytime Doug comes home, I’m like a caged animal that’s just been let loose – I’m just bursting with energy to go out for dinner, or drive somewhere, anywhere. hehe. That doesn’t work too well, because Doug’s home from a whole day out, so he’s usually not as enthusiastic about it as me. We try to come to a compromise, for example, we eat out twice a week.
Being a person who is always open to new experiences, I welcome this change in schedule. More later.
