I never exercise, but since after the pregnancy, I’ve been feeling bad about my weight. I get flab at all the wrong places, and I don’t feel as healthy as I used to be. So for 2007 I’m going to promise myself that I will do something about it and start living healthy. So today I went to my FIRST yoga/pilates lesson with my good friend. As you could have assumed, I literally didn’t know what to expect, but now as I sit here writing about it, I must say it was a good first experience and yes I will do it again.
My interpretation of dieting has always been to starve yourself, and now after reading the introductory chapter of “You on a Diet”, I realized I’ve been doing it wrong. One statement struck me like a hit on the head – “When you lose weight without exercise, you lose both muscle and fat, but when you gain weight without exercise, you gain only fat.” That means I’ve been accumulating fat all these years like a friggin’ mutual fund! So everytime I lose the weight, and gain it back again, I’m gaining MORE fat than I initially lost! I’ve got to put a stop to this NOW. From now on, I will eat healthy! Let this blog entry be a testimony to my conviction!
Yes, already two weeks since I came back from vacation, and seems kinda slow though. I’ve gotten lazy in updating my blog, and I will resolve to make more posts. I’ll be going to yoga class for the first time, part of my lamo-schlamo new year resolution to exercise more. Hopefully this time it’ll work.
There’s this pesky little app called Twitter, which I have registered an account for last year, but just today, I downloaded “Twitterific” by Iconfactory, and it has made twittering so much easier. Now I’m inclined to twitter often, so maybe I’ll see you in Twitterland.
Just noticed that Wordpress has released version 2.1! I’m going to update my blog a little later. I always welcome new features.
Rebecca is now starting to want to stand and climb all over the place. She can’t sit still! If you put her on your lap, she will do some kind of shimmy and either want to stand with her chest against your shoulder, or slide her body down so she can stand on the floor. She still throws herself back at times, not realizing that she might not have a soft landing all the time. She disturbs everybody, including the ratty girls. What a pest! hehe.
I’ve been looking to buy a camera ever since before we went back to Singapore. Hoping to find a good deal in Asia, I held off getting one online. Unfortunately the prices in Asia were comparable, so a few days ago I ordered the Canon G7 from Amazon. This baby arrived today and I’m thrilled – Its a whopping 10 MP, has 6x optical zoom, a whole bunch of present settings, and the ability to add lenses and a flash. And did I mention the “humongous” 2.5 inch screen? Everything’s so much clearer now.
We are finally back from our month long vacation to China and Singapore. This was also the first time Rebecca sat on a plane, and I must say, she did really well considering how long the flight was. We were so busy visiting relatives and friends that I didn’t really get the chance to blog about it until now. So here are some highlights of our trip.
We began our journey from SFO to Hong Kong. I didn’t know what to expect on the plane, and turned out I overpacked Rebecca’s food supply. I didn’t know that SIA provided babyfood and diapers! I also learned how to strap on an infant seatbelt, and got to see how an airline bassinet looks like. The hours passed really fast for me, maybe because I was constantly worried about Rebecca I had no chance to be bored.
I have never been to China, so this was definitely an eye-opener for me. From the Hong Kong airport we took a ferry to Shenzhen. We spent one week there, and I thoroughly enjoyed tasting the different types of food they had. We even drove all the way to Guangzhou for a day trip, as well as one day in Hong Kong. The weather in Shenzhen was pretty similar to here in the Bay Area, but fortunately not as chilly. Rebecca had a great time visiting her Grandparents.
After a week in China we continued on our route back home to Singapore. The weather there hit me like a sticky blob – the minute I landed I literally had perspiration running down my face. And that wasn’t the hottest day either – it had rained continuously for a few days and certain areas of Singapore were flooded.
Bringing Rebecca home was really special. Most of our family and friends haven’t seen Rebecca at all, only pictures, and they were thrilled meeting her for the first time. I would say that this was the first time that Rebecca has seen so many “strangers” trying to carry her or play with her. In the beginning she was all snobby and didn’t allow anyone to touch her, but by the end of the week she opened up and was smiling, laughing and waving to everyone. Another special treat was that she got to meet her cousin, Charlotte, for the first time. Charlotte is 6 months older than Rebecca, and has started to walk. Rebecca only knew how to crawl. When they first met it was such a funny sight – both of them were communicating with loud screams that no one by themselves knew the meaning of. The flashes of the many cameras made them look like celebrities being hounded by paparazzi.
We had a lovely time (busy!) catching up with all our relatives and friends for the two weeks we were there. In addition we had to plan Rebecca’s 1st Birthday Party. Luckily one of our relatives took care of the venue and all we had to do was to order the food, and get the birthday cake. It was a small gathering of close relatives, lots of picture taking, eating, and Karaoke! I made a little slideshow for Rebecca to chronicle her first year of life. We played it on that day and I would like to share it with you (see end of post). Check out the pictures as well.
I gotta admit, at first sight the iPhone didn’t look all that fancy. Maybe it wasn’t white. But after watching Steve Jobs demo-ing it in the keynote, I’m sold. The beauty is in the software, in my opinion. iPod, Phone, Internet Communicator … iPod, Phone, Internet Communicator …
What I love about this phone is how you can use your fingers to do these insane things with it, like scrolling through the list, pinching pictures to resize them, and typing with a virtual keyboard. Since I already have my Nokia E62, I’ll be waiting 2 more years before getting the iPhone. In the meantime, I’ll just ogle over the pics.
Rebecca turns 1 on January 5th, and we celebrated it with a small gathering of relatives in Singapore. We had a really great time, with the food, the people, and Karaoke.
